Strikes and plenty of smiles as residents relive a past passion
It was a lively trip down memory lane for a group of residents who recently enjoyed a game of ten-pin bowling – something they hadn’t done for many years.
Encouraged and supported by the staff and volunteers, the keen bowlers immersed themselves in the friendly competition, relishing the familiar crack of skittles falling and cheering at each other’s successes.
Not everyone managed a strike, but no one cared – this was an opportunity to recreate a moment from the past for some and try something new for others. And, it was such fun!
“It’s not quite like riding a bike,” quipped one of the ladies with a smile. “You do forget where to aim after all those years!”
Still on a high, the happy group enjoyed a well-earned cuppa after the game, while watching one of the staff members, who bowls for a representative team, demonstrate her skills. They learned more about the sport, including there are different balls used for different styles and lane conditions.
Lifestyle lead, Trish, says reenabling residents to rediscover or regain skills builds confidence and helps them stay independent. “We were delighted to support this group with a past passion, and it was fantastic to see them immersing themselves in the game.”
