Queensland Ballet comes to PresCare Maryborough
We tried ballet and loved it! When Queensland Ballet came to PresCare Maryborough recently, they held a seated ballet class for residents.
Eager to try something new, there was a strong turnout from residents from both communities who arrived with open minds and big smiles as they were greeted by some of the dancers from the Ballet. Seated in a circle around the room, the residents were soon seen moving in time with the rhythm, pointing their toes and stretching their arms.
“I loved the class!,” says resident, Pam. “It would be great to have the Queensland Ballet dancers back again soon.”
Manager, Rozina, says the classes were a wonderful opportunity for the residents to try something new.
“At PresCare Maryborough we recognise the multiple benefits that exercise can bring to a resident’s physical and emotional wellbeing and our teams plan and promote regular exercise as well as activities that include or encourage movement,” she says. “We were delighted when Queensland Ballet reached out to us. Dance has been proven to be beneficial for all ages, and residents really enjoyed this different movement style that promoted co-ordination and balance. It was so much fun!”
The class was held as part of Queensland Ballet’s programme aimed at facilitating enriching and life-enhancing experiences for aged care residents. Tailored for all abilities, the class incorporated movement and music with the goal of encouraging physical activity, sparking joy and improving the overall wellbeing of the participants.
