Green goodness – our gardens are looking lovely
Our community garden has enjoyed a recent makeover. New gardener, Steven, has set about tidying up, clearing out and bringing more light and love into our outdoor areas.
“We want to create welcoming spaces for the residents where they feel at home,” says Steven who enjoys chatting to the residents about what they used to grow in their own gardens and getting their input on new plants for our community garden. “Right now, I’m focusing on the feature gardens, the dedicated ANZAC garden and areas with seating and I’m planning on adding more colour with flowers and native plants. It’s all about providing residents with lovely places where they can connect with each other, their families and nature.”
Steven recently joined some of the residents on a special shopping trip to Bunnings. They enjoyed a coffee together while discussing which vegetables seedlings to buy. The group then chose a sunny day, donned their hats and joined Steve in the garden where they enthusiastically planted their new veggies in the raised garden beds.
Manager, Sandra, says it’s wonderful to see residents get involved in the garden. “Gardening offers therapeutic and physical benefits, such as improved strength and mobility, as well as a sense of accomplishment. It’s truly great to see the residents engage with Steven and take pride in our outdoor areas. We’re all benefitting from the new, improved garden!”
