Delicious and nourishing meals on the menu
When it comes to mealtimes, there’s plenty of choice for Alexandra Gardens residents.
Catering Manager, Judith, and the catering team have been extra busy preparing delicious meals using this season’s freshest produce.
In the household dining rooms, residents gather to enjoy conversation and hearty meals such as lamb shanks with red wine jus, country chicken pie and parmesan crusted chicken.
Firm favourites include meat pie with mashed potato and mushy peas, pork chops with seasonal vegetables, and the monthly BBQ. And residents have been enjoying the current Irish theme with meal choices including Irish stew and dumplings, potato and leek soup, shepherd’s pie and chunky apple cake with caramel sauce. Sounds yum!
Menus are prepared on site with input from residents and reviewed by a dietitian to ensure they meet nutrition requirements. Judith says they change regularly to ensure residents enjoy the best of each season. “We make sure we include their favourite dishes and that there are plenty of choices at every meal to cater for everyone’s individual needs and tastes,” she says.
The kitchen is Judith’s happy place. “I cook with heart and especially love afternoon tea treats and desserts, like sponge cake with passionfruit icing, scones and plum pudding,” she says.
Manager, Sandra, says socialisation at mealtimes is just as important as the nutritious food itself. “We encourage residents to enjoy their meals together in our welcoming dining rooms. Joy and connection are great for our health too,” she says.
