Bringing Farm and Show Day fun to Alexandra Gardens
When a troop of animals casually wandered into Alexandra Gardens community recently, there were gasps of delight from residents.
Making an entrance were Apache and Sasha, the ponies, a cattle dog and Ruby the dachshund who welcomed the flurry of pats and cuddles.
Lifestyle Team Leader, Trish, says Farm Day is a firm favourite for the residents who love the animals, particularly enjoying feeding carrots to the ponies.
The special connection between the animals and the residents was unmistakable and for some, brought back fond memories of their early days in the countryside.
Resident Ron was delighted when the pony joined him in his suite. “I was so glad Apache could visit me in my room. Being with the animals brought back such fond memories of my youth,” he said.
“It’s wonderful to watch the magic that happens as residents connect with the animals and they instinctively respond. There’s something special about seeing how much love and joy the animals bring.” says Trish.
Also taking residents back was the recent Show Day to coincide with the Rockhampton Show.
Residents enjoyed fairy floss and their very own side show alley playing games like ‘knock ‘em down’ and bobbing for fish. Everyone was a winner receiving their own showbags stuffed with treats.
The lifestyle activities on offer at Alexandra Gardens are extensive and an essential part of our community. “Our activities provide a sense of purpose, community and connection, while also ensuring residents live an active, healthy and fun life,” says Trish.
